Galicia is an autonomous community of Spain located in the northwest Iberian Peninsula.
The Galician language (also known as Galego) is officially regulated by the Royal Galician Academy. Galician is taught in schools, and there is a public Galician-language television channel, Televisión de Galicia.
As far as I could understand, in Galician the colour red is vermello, but when referred to hair colour, it’s rubio/roibo or roxo. Actually, the automatic translator translates roxo as purple, but in Galician purple is púrpura.
Please note that in Spanish rubio is blond, while in Galician blond is louro/loiro.
Here are the two proverbs.
Na aldeíña da Torre/ non entra un carro con toxo/ por causa dunha meniña/ que ten o peliño roxo
(In the village of A Torre/ no cart with gorse can enter/ because of a little girl/ who has red hair)
A Torre is a village in the municipality of Vilagarcía de Arousa. It would be interesting to understand the connection among this village, the gorse and red hair. 😁
Cando o río fose enriba/ e os carballos deren uvas/ han de ser homes de ben/ os homes de barbas rubias.
(When the river flows upstream/ and the oaks bear grapes/ the men with red beards will be good men.)
The latter is similar to other proverbs we have seen, according to which something impossible must happen before redheads become good, loyal, faithful, etc. For example, we can recall Si ruber est fidelis, diabolus est in coelis (If the redhead is loyal/faithful, the devil is in heaven).
